Absolutely love this place! Martin is by far the best Hairdresser Ive ever had and such a nice guy. Thank you Martin for always correcting my hair when I leave it too long between visit. All the staff here are lovely and very helpful.

I visited The Retreat for the first time yesterday. I moved to Farnham nearly a year ago, and for the first few months I kept travelling to the other side of Surrey to my former salon (I'm very loyal when I like a place!). However, I then decided to give one of the other local salons a trial and have been going there ever since. It's of an equivalent standard to The Retreat (actually, probably more expensive). However, my stylist is currently on holiday for several weeks so I explained to my stylist at The Retreat that I couldn't wait for her return for a cut, and was therefore giving their salon a try - particularly as I had meant to test out a few in the area before settling on one salon. In other words, I was very clear that I could be won over as a regular client.I was happy with the cut I received, however I wasn't impressed with the lack of welcome by staff. I had a 9.00am appointment so the salon had been open a short while but was still quiet. The staff at the front of the store didn't even make eye contact with me when I checked in. One of them was too busy putting on her makeup in one of the small customer mirrors. Whilst waiting for my appointment a series of sullen young women shuffled in (employees), clearly not thrilled to be arriving at work.The Retreat doesn't offer any kind of new customer discount - only if you are referred by a friend. My stylist made no attempt to win me over, and didn't give any indication she hoped I'd return. I don't need to hear somebody's life story but conversation was kept to a minimum. She had offered me magazines, even though I wasn't having a colour or a treatment that required me to sit there on my own - I thought this was strange (how rude to sit there reading while your hair's being cut - and not engage at all with the stylist!), but in hindsight she obviously didn't want to have to engage with me. No mention of whether I wanted to book in for a further appointment. I guess she has enough clients and doesn't need any more.I can only give The Retreat an average rating because the whole salon experience is important to me. You're paying a lot of money so you should be made to feel welcome. It was a quiet Friday morning - not so early for people to still be bleary-eyed, and it wasn't at the end of a busy day, so no excuse. I'll be taking my salon money elsewhere.
I have been going to the Retreat for around 8 yrs now for my colour and cut. I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience, the staff are always tentative, kind and professional. I look forward to having my colour done as I know I will walk out looking 100 times better than when I went in! The Aveda products never ruin my hair and its in such good condition. Don't stop what you are doing, as you are all fab!
